Lace closures have been around for decades.
For me, It all started with a 4-inch by 4-inch lace that was dark and hard to conceal.
Now let’s fast forward a little bit.
I will never forget the first time I held an HD Lace Closure. It starkly contrasted the standard lace closures we started selling in 2013.
The lace was thinner, almost invisible, and disappeared when I held it up to my arm to see how it would blend.
Kinda funny…Don’t we all match the lace color with our arms?💅🏾
I quickly realized that this was the future. The HD Lace became popular in the US market shortly after Transparent Lace Closure. This was different. Many hairstylists called it “film lace” because it was mostly used for wigs worn by actresses in movies.
It was maybe Broadway, but not the average woman who wanted the ultimate lace melt like someone they watched on the big screen.
Fast forward to the present day, and we now have so many options for HD lace, which is incredible. My job at Private Label is to ensure we have all the popular lace closure sizes you desire.
Choosing the right size HD lace closure could make or break your next hairstyle. There is a lot to consider when choosing the right size closure, and that’s what we will discuss today.
Let’s talk about the different lace closure sizes, the importance of small knots, having them pre-plucked, and why you should consider one of these closures for your next sew-in or wig.

Understanding HD Lace Closures
An HD Lace closure is a thin piece of fabric with human hair ventilated to make a realistic hairpiece that covers a portion of the crown of the head.
If you look really close, you will see the tiny holes in the fabric.
Yes, someone is putting strands of hair through those holes, making a knot, and continuing to do so for hours to complete a single piece. I will be the first to tell you I don’t have the eyesight for that!
The closure is then either kept straight or steamed into a curly or wavy curl pattern. Our clients at Private Label love HD lace closures because they are easier to blend and manipulate while installing.
The only major downside is that they are also delicate because they are so thin. This is opposed to standard and transparent lace closures, which are often more durable because they are a little thicker and easier to use multiple times.
These closures are also not as easy to hide. Remember, the purpose of a closure is to not look like a closure. Your goal is to make it look as natural as possible, and HD lace helps accomplish this better than any other lace product currently available.
Private Label has all the popular sizes, including 2×6, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, and 7×7. Each size has a specific purpose, which can be based on price or style.
Let’s examine the pros and cons of each lace closure size and what might be best for you!
HD Lace Closures Sizes
You might feel overwhelmed when buying the perfect HD lace closure with so many different sizes available.
Your stylist should have some recommendations for you. If consulting with a stylist, please remember to tell them you are shopping at Private Label, which has all the lace closure sizes to choose from.
Yeah, we are that hair company!
2×6 HD Lace Closures
Our clients love the 2×6 lace closure, which measures 2 inches in width and 6 inches in length.
It provides a narrow yet elongated lace area that allows for a deep middle part. Technically, the closure could be installed on the right or left side to create a side part. Or you could do this when sewing a wig.
The 2×6 lace is perfect for someone who wants a deep parting space but is not obligated to deal with the lace. The two inches of lace in the front can be easily managed. If you use HD lace, all that’s needed to conceal this area might be some makeup or lace tint.
The 2×6 is available in straight, wavy, and curly textures, which all work well with this lace type and can seamlessly blend with your virgin hair bundles.
4×4 HD Lace Closures
The 4×4 Lace is like the OG of HD!
This was the most popular lace size when it was first released. Why? It was the only lace size when it was first released! The 4×4 lace closure provides ample parting space and works well with all hair textures.
Other than the price, this lace size is not exponentially beneficial. The 4×4 lace requires less raw material or labor to make than its bigger sisters. However, you are slightly limited to how far you can part your hair and side parts.
Overall, it’s a great option for those who want a realistic look without spending the extra cash.
5×5 HD Lace Closures
Ready for the best compromise when it comes to versatility and price?
The 5×5 lace closure is a fantastic option for most women looking for a little extra flexibility without the hefty price tag of its bigger sisters. A five-inch part offers a natural look.
With the five-inch width, you have more flexibility for a left or right side part. We might stick to a slightly larger closure for some of the more dramatic style parting techniques.
The 5×5 lace has become more common in the marketplace, and many textures are available.
6×6 HD Lace Closures
Okay, we are now getting to the luxury of HD Lace closures.
The 6×6 lace closure is big in a great way.
The flexibility of a deep part, side parts, z-parts, curved parts, and anything else your hairstylist creates is possible with this size closure. The only downside is that the price of a 6×6 lace is starting to reach the higher price range for a lace closure.
However, if you purchase a closure from your fam at Private Label, your pricing will still be coming in way lower than most other hair vendors.
7×7 HD Lace Closures
The 7×7 HD is like the queen of closures!
We are talking about a lot of lace to work with here. The 7×7 lace closure is almost like a lace frontal with coverage in the front without having to go ear to ear. You can get the most natural closure look with a 7×7 and do all the best natural parts you can come up with.
When you hold a 7×7 closure, you will think, “Wow, this is a really big closure.”
Because it is! And that’s a good thing. At this point, you are already committed to keeping the front of the lace down by properly sewing it in or making a glueless wig. You could use the best lace glue or some lace tape as an alternative.
Please remember that these closures are an investment and must be taken care of. The HD Lace is delicate and should be treated with care. What is your favorite size closure?

Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Size
When choosing the right closure, you must consider more than just the lace size.
You are going for that perfect installation to get you the DMs on Instagram, Tinder swipes, and TikTok comments.
It’s time to heat things up by deciding the other factors when choosing the right size closure.
Closure Texture
What hairstyle are you going for today?
Looking for something straight and sleek or curly and cute? An idea of what texture closure you want and the matching bundles will be key.
Thankfully, Private Label has most of the popular hair textures available, including:
- Straight Closures
- Body Wave Closures
- Deep Wave Closure
- Loose Wave Closures
- Yaki Straight Closures
- And Many More!
If you don’t want the long-term commitment of an individual texture, consider finding a hairstylist to make you a wig with your texture and closure choice.
Closure Length
We might have an issue if you show up to your hairstylist with some 28” bundles and a 12” closure.
Please ensure you are getting a closure long enough to match your bundles. If possible, get a length 2” longer and have your stylist cut it.
It’s not cute to have those long bundles flowing down your back, and the closure in the front looks like you are trying to be RiRi in a bob.
It’s not going to work. Get at least a 20” closure for hairstyles up to 30”, and 18” is the most common for lengths 18” – 24”.
If you are going with a shorter hairstyle, you can get away with a 16” but unless you are getting a bob don’t go grabbing that 14” because it’s going to be too short! If all else fails, go a little longer.
Parting Preferences & Styles
Nothing says more natural than a well-done hair part.
Sure, it’s not for everyone, but it can make a big difference in the natural appearance of your sew-in or wig.
If possible, start with at least a 5×5 lace or a 2×6 closure if you don’t want to deal with lace on your hairline. I don’t have anything against a 4×4 closure, but it’s just not going to give you what you want to get. Not when the 5×5 is only a little more expensive and can offer a lot more.
If you want something more versatile, start with the 6×6. With this closure, you can do both a middle part and a side part, brushing your hair over either part to rock the one you like that day.
With a 7×7 closure, you can do whatever the hell part you want!
Length of Bundles
So here is the deal: Your closure decision will be easier if you know the length of the bundles you are going to buy.
If you already purchased a hair bundle deal and are shopping for a lace closure, you are kinda stuck with what you need to match.
We always recommend purchasing at the same time if possible so you can do your best to match the closure length with your bundles.
The key is getting a closure that is long enough to match your bundles.
